Become a member!
You can take part in our events and Worship services without being a member of the Espoo Lutheran Church. But in case you want to become a member, this page is for you!
Nearly every second citizen of Espoo is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. All baptised Christians can join our church without being baptised again. In fact, our church does not practice re-baptism at all.
If you want to join our church as a member but have not been baptised, you can join a baptism class to explore the Christian faith and the meaning of church membership. Find out more about baptism here.
Baptised Christians wanting to join the Lutheran Church may need to go through the ritual of confirmation, depending on their church background. Youth confirmation classes are held every year in various languages. Finnish youth usually attend confirmation school in the year they get fifteen. Confirmation classes for adults are held on-demand. Contact your local parish if you are interested. Attending class does not oblige you to become a member. More information about confirmation here.
Church membership involves both rights and responsibilities. As a member, you engage in the Church’s mission of sharing the Gospel, helping people though for example the diaconal work and participating in church activities, and paying the church tax (currently 1% of your gross income) which makes possible the services of the Church. In addition, you can use all the services we offer and make your voice heard by voting in Parish elections every four years.
