Support for students and staff

Student life can be stressful and challenging. Especially living and studying abroad can pose challenges that are hard to meet without some help.

We have university chaplains at Aalto University, Laurea and Metropolia Universities of Applied Sciences, and Omnia and Kelloseppäkoulu (Watchmaking School) vocational schools. They are there for students and staff alike: to listen, help, encourage, and advise anyone regardless of background or religion. You can spontaneously sit down with them for a chat in a café on campus or contact them by email, WhatsApp, or text message for advice or an appointment. The chaplains are part of the school’s welfare teams and work closely together with other professional helpers. 

They have experience and training in dealing with life crises and grief and helping with various relationship issues, e.g. in intimate and family relationships. You can reflect with them on matters related to the broader meaning of life, conviction, and spirituality.

There are many aspects to life, and reconciling them is not always easy. It can feel as if there is no end to what we are doing, and sometimes, it is good to stop and reflect on the resources we have at our disposal.

It is better to start unravelling thoughts or situations when things are not yet at their worst. As long as you can function, finding new ways of coping is also easier. Talking to a friend, relative, or loved one is often enough, but sometimes, talking to an outsider opens up new perspectives. Conversations and consultations with our university chaplains are always strictly confidential.
