Blessing a home

When you have moved into a new home, you can have a ceremonial home blessing.

A home blessing is a church ceremony where we ask for God's blessing and protection for our home. The ceremony can take place at any time, but it is most commonly done when moving into a new home. You can combine a home blessing with a wedding, baptism, or housewarming party. The blessing extends to those living in the house and all who visit.

A home blessing can be conducted by a pastor, a church worker, or a parish member. If the blessing takes place in connection with a wedding or baptism, it is performed by a pastor.

The ceremony's form, content, and languages may vary widely according to your cultural and church backgrounds. The ceremony can also be ecumenical. Family members, relatives, and friends can contribute with music, songs, and prayers.

To organise a home blessing or book a pastor, contact the Espoo Parish Union Service centre or your parish.
